Are we so different?

Hi everyone

It is true that we are all human beings, but also each of us has something unique that differentiates us from the rest. However, as amazing as it seems, we all learn in different ways, and even when there are ways of learning, each of use creates their own learning style. That again makes us different from the rest of the world.

IM theory, developed by Gardner, gives us a broad insight on how people learn, and it is awesome to know that by learning about this theory, we can learn a lot about ourselves, not only as students, but also as people. that means that next time you fight with your couple or someone, it will probably be because you both have different intelligences.

The good thing about learning about the MI theory as teachers is that we need to be able to know about our learning styles and about our students' learning styles. If we know about us, we could try to teach in a way that we feel comfortable, but at the same time we could try to adapt the way we teach to suit our students' preferences.

Moreover, if we know about our students' styles, we could create and include different activities so that everyone can be benefitted from our classes. We could help them with visuals, music, charts, etc. Those activities could help the visual, the musical, and the mathematical learners. Also, we could ask them to stand up and do a hands-on activity, or ask them to work in pairs. From time to time, we could also let them work on their own. All these activities would benefit the kinesthetic, the interpersonal and the intrapersonal. I could continue listing activities to do, but I guess I would never finish.

With the advent of computers, we have entered a world where we can use computers for different things. Computers help in a number of fields, but the good thing is that they can also help us to find activities that will motivate students and at the same time fit their preferences and their intelligences. As I always say, computers are fantastic because they have provided teachers with an incredible amount of tools to be used in class, but we have to make sure we use them wisely.

  1. I agree that we use computers effectively. Technology can help us a lot and help various types of students in terms of multiple intelligences. By knowing our intelligences, we, teachers can avoid looking students as only our point of views.
